Fears can be overcomed!
All of us have our own fears. Some fears may seem silly, some may be intimidating, nevertheless, most fears can be addressed constructively if seen from the positive perspective.
My fears? I had quite a number of "big" fears previously, some may be plain silly. But I managed to overcome them.:) Swallowing pills, tablets or capsules is something I dreaded most when I was young. When did I overcome that? Through the hard way, but it proved to be very effective. When I was having a mild bronchitis (age 16), that was when I had no choice but to swallow hard!!! The voluminous amount of prescribed medicine (all sorts of colours, sizes, types I could recall).
Also, used to fear the idea of going for camping trips or outdoor activities, never did any of those in secondary school days. However, I had a huge dose to taste during my national service training. Now at least I can honestly admit I did kayaking, abseiling, flying fox, stayed in a camping tent, jungle trekking before.
I remembered my Dad's words exactly. "Do not defer anything. Deferment does not solve any problem".
I completely agree with him. Those words do ring in my ears whenever I am facing any challenges in life. And what's good about it is I treat it as one of my principles of life. I despise the notion of "deferring" as a "mean to run away from problems of life faced". The more you try to run away from it, the more it gets around to catch and strangle you!!
Sometimes we just need to be open minded and look things from the positive perspective. What is needed to be done precisely to address the fear? Is okay to make mistakes while addressing the fear, rather than "avoiding" or not doing anything. Encouragement is needed, and what makes more effective when you yourself initiates it. No one can encourage you effectively if you don't start believing in yourself that you can overcome it. Been flatting out now, I was pleasantly surprised with the smooth transition. Consider this: a person who stayed in a catered hall for 3 years, hardly do any cooking at home. But now I realised is possible as long as I try my best. I am not aiming to be a good cook, as long as what I eat is healthy and eatable. :p
Happy new year folks. May this be a blessed year ahead for everyone. My resolutions?
Be a better listener.
People first(service above self) mentality something I have to practice more.
Self respect /love
What I learned from 2008? Honestly, it had been a tough year but I learnt alot from it.
Summary of 2008: Food for thought:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference.- Rheinhold Niebuhr
No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.- Eleanor Roosevelt
