e literacy?
Last week English lecture was about the impact of technology affecting the social demographic aspects of life. Well, of course, Mr Turner mentioned about e literacy a new emergence of language form taking place today, how we read online is different from reading a book. When we read a book, we are actually analysing critically the words and language used. The question is, does this have the same effect on the screen? Instead of turning pages, we scroll as we read on the screen. Unconsciously, our minds work differently and we develop this multi tasking ability through online reading as opposed to linear thinking when we read a physical book. Yes, he talked about blogs. Blogs are actually structured in a very informal way, and the clear terms used to refer that are called ramblings.=)
But the issue is, how technology actually affects our social behaviour? For example, mobile phones help us substantially by reducing the geographical and time barrier, but how about privacy? The private walls once we enjoyed are reduced greatly. Technology becomes very demanding. Isn't it considered not ethical in business when a mobile phone rings in the middle of a negotiation and in fact, most of us are occupied with the handphone demands until we forget to listen to our friends or colleagues in a conversation just because we are simply texting a message? How often a family conversation during dinner time is interrupted abruptly by a ringing telephone? Is it rude not being able to reply emails in a timely manner? Technology increases these demands and are we able to cope with it? Are we actually controlling OR being controlled by technology?
Unrelated to the above, had a busy week this week. Hope you guys have a great weekend ahead. Me? Assignments , a quiz and heaps of tutorial and readings to do.
